Get FM Radio on Your Cell Phone

Radio 2020 is issuing a call-to-action via their blog to have people petition to get FM radio on their cell phones.  Although I see some value in a feature like that, I am wondering if it is worth the R&D since faster connections and more internet radio stations limit the necessity of this capability.  Personally, I’d rather my iPhone have an FM transmitter so that I can send whatever I am listening to (internet radio, iPod) to an FM radio.  That would improve the already great device immensely for me.

What are your thoughts?  Should cell phone manufacturers be pushed to include FM receivers or should they focus on making their devices more internet-friendly?

Maybe broadcast radio should be more concerned about their magnitude of sucking before they worry about something like this.

Was I being snarky there? Guess so.

Snarky? Yes. Inappropriate? Not even a little. My thinking is that broadcast radio is seeing that they are losing listeners to choice-driven avenues such as internet radio, and this is one way in which they can try to maintain relevance.
