Facebook, MySpace and Twitter Statistics

While researching a presentation that I will be giving next week, I have accumulated some links to information about the traffic and importance of social networks.

Facebook US Traffic Nearing Google, Yahoo – “US traffic to Facebook.com has increased by nearly 8% to 82.9 million unique visitors last month, with Facebook Connect sites generating an additional 65 million uniques. That means that, according to Compete, a total of 113 million people in the U.S. interacted with the Facebook service. The data also shows MySpace is (still) steadily decreasing”

On Twitter, Most People Are Sheep: 80 Percent Of Accounts Have Fewer Than 10 Followers“The fact that an estimated 32 million people around the world visited Twitter.com alone in April certainly indicates that there is something going on there. It just may be that Twitter really isn’t as much about two-way micro-conversations as it is about one-way micro-broadcasting.”

Facebook Statistics -

  • More than 200 million active users
  • More than 100 million users log on to Facebook at least once each day
  • More than two-thirds of Facebook users are outside of college
  • The fastest growing demographic is those 35 years old and older
  • Average user has 120 friends on the site
  • More than 5 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day (worldwide)
  • More than 30 million users update their statuses at least once each day
  • More than 8 million users become fans of Pages each day
  • More than 900 million photos uploaded to the site each month
  • More than 10 million videos uploaded each month
  • More than 1 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photos, etc.) shared each week
  • More than 2.5 million events created each month
  • More than 35 million active user groups exist on the site

All in all, these numbers and articles speak to the importance that social networking has and continues to have on our daily lives.  And the numbers are growing…
